You live, you learn
Welcome back to the first post of 2018! I always get slightly terrified to determine how the rest of the year will go based on the 1st day. Most people think that if the first day is crap, then the rest of the year is bound to be also crap. And every year, I think like that, every year I'm wrong. So as much as I don't want to, I am going to try and live each day as it comes and hope for the best! So after all this rambling, I hope you've all had a lovely New Year!
I have a very odd feeling about 2018, like its all in my grasp if I want this to be a good year, or I can let it all slip and let it become a bad year. I plan to grasp it (whatever it is). I have goals and plans for 2018 that I would like to achieve, so I'd like to do them - while I'm still motivated.
So today I wanted it to be a small look-back on all the blogger events I went to in 2017, talk about my feelings, thoughts, and to give a short review if I was lucky enough to receive any products, which fortunately was most if not all of them.
Blogosphere Summer Party
This was the first ever blogging event that I had gone to, and I discovered it by pure chance. But I went there, with no idea what to expect and it was perfect for a first event because it was quite small, but the setting was perfect for bloggers. There were 2 brands there, Braun and So..? Fragrace for us to find out more about and talk to. There were also guest speakers talking to us about SEO and photography. On that day, I learned that there are plenty of things you can use as photo props, even going as far as stealing confetti from a party for it!
At all Blogosphere events, we always recieve a lovely goodie bag and products from the brands that are there as well, which is super generous of them. It's also really great that we get to meet the PR or the spokesperson for the brand which is great for building long term relationships.
Scarlett London Bloggers Festival
This was by far the biggest event that I had gone to in 2017. It was held in the beautiful Conrad Hotel in London, and again I had no idea what to expect. I was almost doing what everyone else was doing, which was lots of photo taking! There was an insane amount of brands here, and it was so lovely meeting them all. It was here that I had met the wonderful brand Vieve and it is definitely a brand that I'll be working with for a long period of time!
Again, the key is to speak to as many people as you can, whether it's brands or other bloggers. From this event I had a huge abundance of products to try and talk about, which was pretty nice of Scarlett and everyone else at the event. I think my absolute favourites from that event were Quiz Clothing, since I use them often and love them for their high quality but affordable dresses and fashion, Stackers, a jewellery storage brand which I absolutely adore, Vieve, the healthy protein drinks that are super tasty, and Burmuda Born, a up and coming bag brand whose colours are inspired by the founder's birthplace. These are all brands I would be over the moon to work with.
Bloggers' Blog Awards
I had brought tickets for this before I ever even knew what the event was or where it was - don't repeat after me here. But, we got our train tickets up to Leeds, and we made our journey up to the beautiful city. The day ended up even better than I had ever thought of, because we met the gorgeous Megan at Thumbelina Lillie and Mikila at Miss Budget Beauty.
This was entirely different from all the other events, there were no brands, just a gathering of both small and big bloggers to prepare for the awards. I had met some lovely people and also won a small prize at the raffle which was so nice! The lesson to be learnt here, is that you shouldn't be afraid to speak to others, because you don't know who you could end up being friends with.
Olympia Beauty Event
Before I went to the Blogger's Festival, I thought that as big. This event was completely insane! To be fair, it wasn't an event targeted at just bloggers, it was for any beauty business owners, salon owners, beauticians etc. There was an entire downstairs exhibition filled with brands with their products on a huge discount so if owners wanted to stock up on anything, that was their chance.
Upstairs, there was a blogger's lounge, and a huge area where different competitions were going on. There was also a seating area for any panels or small talks going on that day. I'm glad I went to that event, because it was so different to all the others.
Blogosphere Christmas Festival
This was definitely the most helpful event that I had gone to, with it's multiple panels throughout the day. There was only a handful of brands there that day, but I had learned so much about working with and pitching to brands, discovering my own personal style as well as stepping out of my comfort zone. And these are the words that I've taken with me into 2018.
It really inspired me, out of all the other events, to do better with not just my blog, but with myself as well. I hope that not too long into the future, I will be the one invited to sit on panels to talk and give my own advice, and to inspire plenty of others.
So as you can see, every single event is totally different, but I still think the overall essence is the same. Be confident, be chatty, and if brands are there, really take that chance to get to know the ones that you potentially want to work with in the future! So it's really important that the collabs you do work are related to your usual content.
I'm hoping to go to a lot more events this year with a fresh mindset, hoping to meet plenty more lovely bloggers!
What about you, will you be going to any events this year?
