It is finally so nice to see that the weather is getting cooler, the days are getting shorter, and the fashion styles getting a bit darker. Even as much as I love the bright and happy and hot weather of summer, living in England does tend to put a damper on that. Although it can make it up to us with autumn. I don’t think that there is a blogger out there that does not like autumn, I mean, I’m not as excited about Halloween as most are, but what I do get excited about are the new changes we can bring in, whether that is clothes, makeup or homeware etc.
So like your normal yet unique (I try) blogger, I would also like to have my say on the topic of autumn, so I wanted to make this “autumn week” where both my posts this week is about the upcoming season. Starting it off today, I wanted to share with you the changes I have made to my makeup bag for autumn with new or not-so-new products I’m loving and hopefully it could give you some inspiration or some ideas!
1. More Concealer
Unlike any traditional beauty blogger, I don’t actually enjoy wearing foundation all that much. My bumpy congested skin means that foundation makes it more obvious and I often find that I don’t really like the feel of lots of makeup on my face. But I sometimes still like to use a thin layer of something just for the days where my skin doesn’t feel like being nice. My absolute favourite is the L’Oreal Infallible Total Cover concealer palette. I love the fact that there is a purple and a green to neutralise any dull areas or red patches, and that there are 3 concealer shades so I can mix them up to get my perfect shade, whether I am tanned or not. Recently I have also been indulging in Fenty Beauty concealer in Bamboo, which is the perfect shade for me.
2. Heavier Brows
In the summer I prefer not to overdo on the brows, because I feel like brows are the difference between a really put together look or the opposite, and in the warmer days I felt like it was nicer to leave them as they were as I have naturally quite bushy brows (really, you thought Cara Delevingne’s was bad). Obviously I kept on top of the plucking, but now it’s cooler and I would like my makeup looks to be much more together and less carefree. So Benefit brow products are my absolute one and only. My favourites are the Ka-Brow for filling and shaping, and the Gimme Brow/Browtones for holding.
3. Red Eyes
I promise this is not as scary as it sounds. Recently my favourite thing to do is to experiment with different eyeshadow colours and red is totally my thing this season, whether its eyes, clothes or accessories, I just feel the need to rock red this entire autumn, which isn’t really so dark at all. Here I have chosen the Tarte Tartelette In Bloom palette simply because it is a great size for me to carry in a makeup bag and the quality and scent of these eyeshadows are incredible. I also really like the Nyx Lid Lingerie in Evening Spell, it’s such a perfect colour and it does not budge once it’s dried, not even for rainy England. A huge honourable mention goes to the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill eyeshadow palette, because once I had discovered it, I have never looked back and its so perfect for trying new colours.
4. Lined Lips
As the weather is cooler and more likely to rain, I believe it would be much better if the lipsticks that I wear could last that little bit longer, especially if I’m out in uni all day. Lip liners really help that and I also love how you can slightly alter the lipstick’s colour depending on the colour of your liner. Now I am one of those people who like to put liner on their whole lip, and sometimes I might even go out with just the liner on. Recently, I tried and successfully understood the hype around Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk liner – just that perfect nude no matter how pale or tanned your skin is.
5. Higher Definition
Whereas I like to keep everything quite natural in the summer, I like to start jazzing it all up come autumn. I keep that bronzed, warm face from the last season because even if you haven’t, it’s nice to look like you’re recently came back from somewhere hot-ish and to have some cheekbones. But I may just be more brave in autumn since everything is dark anyways.
My one and only contour product is the Shapeshifter palette from Urban Decay. I used this all throughout the summer and I am still just as in love with it as the first day I got it. The fact that it has creams and well as powders means that I get to have full control of just how deep I want my contour to be. Oh and also, this highlight. If you want to know more about it then take a peek at my highlighters post right here. I am also testing the waters of cream contouring with the Fenty Beauty Match Stix in Mocha, which again, is a very nice shade for me.
6. Trustworthy Mascara
I have got to be the most boring blogger when it comes to mascara. It has taken me years, and I mean years, to find the perfect mascara for me and my straight Asian lashes and I am very reluctant to move away from it. This Max Factor 2000 Calorie mascara is my absolute holy grail product, it curls, its dark, its not clumpy, it lengthens, it doesn’t flake or smudge, it is just the most amazing thing. Ever. In fact, I love it so much that this is my second tube, and I have never purchased a mascara twice. Sometimes I will use the Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes mascara and I really enjoy the volume it gives, I just wished it was a little dryer.
7. Liquid Lips
Now that the warmer weather is gone, I am much more inclined to get back into the liquid lip trend. It actually won’t be long before I do a full blog post on liquid lipsticks, and even though I don’t love them as much as I used to, come winter, and I’ll probably be all over them again. As of right now, I’m really into the new Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Lips in the shade Show Girl. If I prefer something that is not as dry, then I would use the Bare Minerals Gen Nude Matte Lip Colour in B0$$. I can’t even explain just how much I am in love with this product, the smell, the texture, the colour, everything about it is just insane. If I am looking for lightweight, then I would choose the Dior Lip Tattoo in Natural Rosewood. These are just gorgeous little lip stains that stay on for long periods of time.
8. Darker Looks
Naturally, because of the season I have gravitated more towards the darker, maybe even ever so slightly gothic vibes when it comes to my makeup look. Darker eyes, darker lip, just anything that would show off to the world just how I feel on the inside and match all of my clothes! This is so not unique but I absolutely adore the burgundy colour for anything, and I mean anything. My current favourite for the lips are Dark Side by Mac and Marie by Chanel.
I am also very excited to announce that I have found the perfect red shade for me! Domination by L'Oreal x Balmain is honestly the most beautiful red lipstick I have ever possessed, and it's so affordable!
9. Moisturised Lips
Dry skin is more prone to happening as the temperature drops colder and colder, but no matter what time of the year it is, I cannot live without some Vaseline. For some reason, this is the only product that makes my lips super soft and moisturised, and sometimes I use the Carmex for when I forget to pack my Vaseline and my lips get really unhappy.
10. Nude Injection
Despite what I said about going in with dark everything as the leaves are falling, sometimes it is also nice to have something on the other end of the spectrum to break things up a little bit. And because I have just completely fallen down the eyeshadow rabbit hole, that leaves the lips to tone down. Right at this moment, the closest nude that is my favourite would be Charlotte Tilbury's Very Victoria. But now, my new adventure is to find a paler nude that suits me without making me look slightly ill. If you have any suggestions, drop them down below!
